Domestic Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

Vingroup Innovation Foundation (VinIF), Institute of Big Data (VNCDLL) was established by Vingroup JSC with the function of supporting organizations and individuals to conduct scientific, technological and innovative researches to create positive and sustainable changes for Vietnam.

VinIF, VNCDLL introduces Domestic Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for doctorates in the fields of science, technology, engineering, medicine, economics or education as follows:

Target

Support doctorates from prestigious overseas universities or recently upheld in the country to conduct postdoctoral research full-time at research institutes or universities of Vietnam.

Requirements for candidates

Candidate participating in the program must meet the following requirements:

Falls into one of the following two cases:

(i) have successfully upheld a PhD within 05 (five) years up to the time of application;

(ii) not more than 40 years old and hold a doctorate;

Research field belongs to one of the branches of science, technology, engineering, medicine, economics, education;
Is the author of at least 02 (two) articles published in journals in the list of SCIE/SSCI journals.
Accepted as mentee by a domestic scientist to undertake postdoctoral research. The mentor is an official of the host research institution. The mentor must be the author of at least 10 (ten) scientific papers published in journals indexed in SCIE/SSCI.
A scientific and technological organization of Vietnam that commits/agrees to be the host postdoctoral research institution if the candidate receives the fellowship. The host institution must have the facilities to conduct research, agree to admit the candidate to conduct postdoctoral research and agree to support, facilitate, and permit the candidate to use the equipment for research implementation.
At the same time, candidate is not allowed to receive concurrently postdoctoral fellowship of VinIF and fellowships/grants for postdoctoral research projects from other organizations or individuals.
Postdoctoral fellowship agreement start date: within the year of fellowship application.

Evaluation methods and criteria

a) VNCDLL conducts the evaluation and selection of fellowship candidates through the Scientific Council.

b) Evaluation and selection criteria for candidates:

Quality of the dissertation research proposal;
Candidate’s research achievements;
Research achievements and reputation of the mentor;
Recommendation letters;
Expertise and material facilities of the host research institution;
Performance results of the previous year (in case the applicant had received VNCDLL scholarship).

Funding support

a) Funding is available for 12 months. The total funding per month is VND 30,000,000 (Thirty million Vietnam dong), of which 90% is for fellowship recipients and 10% is for management costs of the host research institution.

b) Fellowships are considered annually. In case the fellowship recipients complete the registered program on schedule, they can continue to submit application documents for the next year.

c) The total time of postdoctoral research support does not exceed 24 months.

d) The fellowship is disbursed 03 (three) times by VNCDLL to the account of the host institution as followed:

The first disbursement of 06 (six) months of the fellowship value right after signing the sponsorship agreement;
The second disbursement of 05 (five) months of the fellowship value after VNCDLL has finished evaluating that the host institution and the fellowship recipient has completed the registered program of the first 06 (six) months on schedule;
The third disbursement of the remaining fellowship value after liquidation of the sponsorship agreement.

e)After receiving funding from VNCDLL, the host research institution is responsible for disbursing to fellowship recipient’s account the monthly fellowship before the 10^th (tenth) of each month.

Responsibility

a) Responsibility of the fellowship recipient

Attend the fellowship awarding ceremony at the place in Vietnam announced by VNCDLL (fellowship recipients are responsible for their own meal, accommodation and transportation expenses);
Implement research activities according to the plan and progress registered in the dissertation research proposal;
Provide valid documents for the final settlement in accordance with VNCDLL’s and related legal regulations;
Submit research reports every 6 months within 5 (five) first days after the end of each 6 month period;
Conduct postdoctoral research full-time at the host research institution;
In the published research results, dissertation, thesis of the recipients, there is acknowledgement of VNCDLL’s support.

b) Responsibilities of the host research institution

Admit fellowship recipient to conduct postdoctoral research and agree to support, facilitate and permit the use of the institution’s equipment and facilities to conduct research;
Monitor research activities according to the plan and progress registered in the dissertation research proposal;
Immediately report VNCDLL of changes (if any) in the course of implementing the research of the fellowship recipient and/or in case the fellowship recipient fails to fulfill the above mentioned responsibilities;
Utilize the funds for the right purposes, with the right regime and effectively; provide valid documents for the final settlement in accordance with the current regulations.

Applicants must simultaneously submit soft copy documents via email scholarship@vinif.org and hard copy documents to Vingroup Innovation Foundation office – Institute of Big Data the following necessary documents:

Application Form for Postdoctoral Fellowship (Form 1.VINIF-STS-DDK);
Applicant’s Academic Curriculum Vitae (Form 2.VINIF-STS-LLKH);
Authenticated copies of Doctoral, Master’s, Bachelor’s Degrees/Diplomas;
Certification of Institution;
Authenticated copies of Doctoral Degree or authenticated certificate copy of successful uphold of the doctorate in case the degree is not yet available (candidates need to provide it no later than December 1 of the year of fellowship application);
Copies of other certificates and awards (if any);
Dissertation research proposal (clarifying the research objectives, contents, methods, research plan and expected results) certified by the mentor and the host institution (Form 3.VINIF-STS-TMDC);
Confirmation of the postdoctoral mentor (Form 4. VINIF-STS-XNBT);
Academic Curriculum Vitae of mentor (Form 5. VINIF-STS-LLKHBT);
Recommendation letters from mentor and at least 02 referees who are prestigious experts (Form 6. VINIF-STS-TGT). The recommendation letters should have specific evaluation of applicants, showing the relationship and understanding about the applicants, assessing their weaknesses and strengths;
Copy of 02 (two) articles published in journals indexed in SCIE/SSCI by applicant. Applicants are encouraged to submit articles in which they have major contributions or articles directly related to the content of their doctoral dissertation.
If the applicant has received fellowship from VNCDLL, they must submit all the above documents together with the report on study and research results of the previous fellowship year.

Implementation plan and address to receive application

Deadline for soft copy submission: March 01, 2024 to April 29, 2024.

Announcement of result: August 2024.
