Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a complex neurodegenerative disorder characterized by memory loss and progressive cognitive decline, with patients gradually losing the ability to function independently. Worldwide, about 37 million people are diagnosed with AD and AD is also one of the leading causes of death in the elderly, second only to cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Besides, the majority of AD patients need someone to take care of them and monitor them, thus creating enormous pressure on the economy. The pathogenesis of AD is determined to involve many factors such as: accumulation of amyloid β peptide (Aβ) deposits, accumulation of tau protein accompanied by oxidative stress, impairment of the cholinergic system, the influence of metal ions and many other elements. However, until now AD is still a disease without a cure and very few drugs have proven the ability to prevent the progression of the disease. Therefore, innovative scientific efforts are needed not only to discover further insights into the AD process but also to develop more effective agents against the disease. Due to the complexity and multiple mechanisms at play in the progression of AD, developing single molecular target drugs is extremely difficult and ineffective. In contrast to single targeting strategies, identifying small molecules that can affect multiple pathways involved in AD is a promising strategy for developing more effective drugs against the disease. The focus of the project is to understand the benefits of the multi-hypothesis strategy in researching and developing drugs to treat AD, thereby developing new pharmaceuticals to control AD. The success of the project will contribute to proving hypotheses about the pathogenesis as well as paving the way for the birth of new drugs in the treatment of AD. The implemented project will contribute to training experts in the field of new drug research, helping to expand the influence of Vietnamese science on the world scientific map. This project, along with subsequent research, will be the premise to realize the research team’s greatest wish, which is to be able to create Vietnam’s invented medicine.
