Challenging problem to be solved
The Ellochelon fish breed is distributed in the Indo-Pacific, including brackish and fresh water. To date, this genus has one species, Ellochelon vaigiensis, recorded in the Mekong Delta and this is also a species with high commercial value. However, the population of this fish species is facing overexploitation, environmental pollution and climate change. Besides, much information about this fish is still unknown such as the mitochondrial genome, nutritional characteristics, reproductive biology, migration and population structure. Solving the above problems will find the optimal solution for reasonable exploitation and conservation of this fish species in the study area.
Project objectives
- Develop a distribution map of the species Ellochelon vaigiensis in the study area.
- Provide data on COI and mitochondrial Cytb gene sequences of Ellochelon vaigiensis to serve species identification and genetic diversity assessment in the study area.
- Provide data on nutritional, reproductive and population characteristics of Ellochelon vaigiensis in the study area.
- Propose solutions for reasonable exploitation and conservation of Ellochelon vaigiensis species in the study area.
Social impact
The results of the project aim to contribute to proposing solutions to conserve and sustainably exploit the resources of the species Ellochelon vaigiensis in the study area; At the same time, it serves as a basis for research on reproduction and artificial raising of them.
